Q – What are the criteria for being a Legend?
A --There are two: (1) the creation of something that improves the
quality of life in Alexandria that would not likely have existed
without that person's vision and determination to make it happen, or
(2) a minimum of 10 years of service on Boards, Committees,
Commissions or Service Organizations.
Q – Can City employees qualify as Legends?
A – Only if their contributions are outside the scope of their jobs.
Q – Can elected officials be considered?
A – No one currently in office or running for an elected position
will be considered.
Q – Can people be renominated?
A – Yes, especially if there is new information on their
contributions. The Board also reviews prior nomination and can
reconsider them without renomination.
Q – Does the nominee have to live in Alexandria?
A – The nominee must live – or – work in Alexandria.

A - Download a form from the website, www.AlexandriaLegends.com or

Q – Who selects the Legends?
A – The selection committee is comprised of Board members for
continuity and past year's Legends.
Q – How many Legends are
selected annually? How many have been nominated since the beginning of
the program?
A – Twelve have been selected annually. We plan to select 6 in 2012.
Over 100 have been nominated and photographed from 2006 through 2010.
Q – How can I find out who has been nominated or selected
previously?
A – The prior nominees all have brief biographical sketches
published in the Living Legends catalogs. The catalogs can be read on
line at www.AlexandriaLegends.com. The prior Legends are listed on the
same website. Click on their names for the link to the stories
published about them.
Q – How is Living Legends funded? Are donations to Living Legends
tax-deductible?
A – Living Legends is funded entirely by donations from individuals,
businesses and foundations. It receives no City funding. Living
Legends is a 501(c)(3) corporation. Donations are tax-deductible.

Q -- What kinds of people have been selected as Legends?
A – Legends include community activists, business people, lawyers,
clergy, educators, artists, and arts advocates.
